Stroke Rehabilitation

Recovering from a stroke is most effective when you, your family, and our specially trained rehabilitation staff work as a team. Together we will help you face the challenges that result from stroke and prepare you for life at home and within the community.

Who Receives Rehabilitation?

Our patients have conditions that are commonly associated with stroke. They include:

  • Weakness or inability to move one side of the body
  • Problems with thinking, awareness, attention, learning, judgement and memory
  • Problems with speaking and understanding speech
  • Problems with controlling or expressing emotions
  • Numbness or strange sensations
  • Pain in the hands and feet
  • Vision loss
  • Depression

What Skills Are Addressed?

Your rehabilitation needs may be different from others who have suffered a stroke. If needed, you can expect help with learning or relearning:

  • Activities of daily living
  • Thinking and communicating clearly
  • Eating and swallowing
  • Balance and mobility including special equipment if needed
  • Managing your medications
  • Safety at home and in the community
  • Controlling your emotions

What You Can Expect

Your stroke rehabilitation treatment program will be planned following a thorough assessment of your condition. If you are hospitalized, you may be recommended for inpatient rehabilitation, an intensive recovery program that takes place within the hospital. When you’re ready to leave the hospital, we’ll help you prepare for the adjustment and reestablishment of life at home, school, work, and in the community. Our stroke support group will help you learn from others who share your challenges.

Outpatient Neuro Rehabilitation Program

Our Outpatient Neuro Rehabilitation Program helps you transition from the hospital to daily living within the community.

A Physician Order Is Not Required

The state of Ohio Physical Therapy Practice Act and Premier Health both allow patients to be seen via Direct Access. That means no physician order is required.

However, some insurance companies require a physician order, so check with your insurance plan or ask our team to assist you.
